Pain management in children after tonsillectomy is common and troublesome, especially with recent issues with narcotic use in young children. This course will provide suggestions for pain management, discussing safe use of narcotics as well as restrictions for use. The course will also discuss techniques of tonsillectomy that may reduce post-surgical pain. The course will discuss the use of non-opiate medications, as well as non-pharmacologic strategies for analgesia.

Learning Objectives:1: Understand the risks of opioids and other medications used for managing pain after tonsillectomy in children. 2: Identify alternative methods for pain control after tonsillectomy in children. 3: Know the unique risks for respiratory compromise after tonsillectomy performed for pediatric obstructive sleep apnea.Faculty:David E.
