Pediatric Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy: Technique and Interpretation
2016 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting &OTO EXPOSM
Keyword(s)
sleep disordered breathing (SDB), Drug induced sleep endoscopy (DISE), pediatric sleep surgery procedure selection
The rates of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) are rising in the pediatric population and a significant proportion of children will have persistent SDB after the standard tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Drug induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) is a relatively new procedure that can be employed to help identify areas of obstruction that are not evident on awake examination. This mini-seminar will address the use of DISE for pediatric SDB. The presentations will include pediatric DISE indications and technique as well as interpretation of DISE findings. The panelists will provide operative and anesthetic tips for successful DISE examinations. Various cases of pediatric SDB will be presented along with DISE videos, and the panel of experts will discuss procedure selection based on DISE findings including indications for nasal surgery, advanced palatal surgeries, tongue base surgical options, and treatment options for occult laryngomalacia.

Learning Objectives:1: Describe proper technique and patient selection for pediatric drug induced sleep endoscopy. 2: Present classification systems for interpretation of pediatric drug induced sleep endoscopy examinations. 3: Characterize approaches for pediatric sleep surgery procedure selection based on findings of drug induced sleep endoscopy.
