Upper Airway Stimulation in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (AMW)
2020 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
The aim of this International Symposium is to deal with hypoglossal nerve stimulation / upper airway stimulation (HNS/UAS) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The first important step is to identify the right patient. Who is the perfect candidate for HNS? Different techniques, different selection criteria's? Since hypoglossal nerve stimulation is available since almost 10 years, different implant techniques have been proposed. The correct selection of the hypoglossal nerve fibers for cuff placement seems to be important for the surgical outcome. Does the implant procedures with advanced NIM techniques has any benefits for the clinical outcome? What is known, what is evident, what should be considered? Furthermore, this lecture gives trouble shooting on the major surgical problems. What are the clinical outcomes of HNS for patients compared to other conservative and surgical procedures in OSA patients? How should a successful program build to take care of HNS patients?

What are the clinical outcomes of HNS for patients compared to other conservative and surgical procedures in OSA patients? How should a successful program build to take care of HNS patients?Learning Objectives: 1. Identifying the perfect candidate for this treatment option. 2. Knowing the newest useful implant technique and advanced trouble shooting. 3. Postoperative evaluation of the patients.Faculty: Clemens Heiser(Research funding: wenstein Medizintechnik; Salary: Neuwirth Medical Products (Obernburg, Germany); Research funding: Sutter Medizintechnik (Freiburg, Germany); Consulting Fees: Galvani Bioelectronics, Inspire Medical Systems (Golden Valley, USA)), Maria V.
