Laryngopharyngeal
reflux (LPR) refers to the backflow of gastric contents into the pharynx,
causing symptoms in the upper aerodigestive tract. LPR is also commonly known
as extra-esophageal reflux. LPR has some similarities with gastroesophageal
reflux disease (GERD), but LPR and
GERD are distinct entities. The diagnosis and treatment of LPR are distinctly
different from GERD, as demonstrated in the following case-based course.
