In this fourth iteration of the annual social media panel we hope to focus on a topic that was broached at last year’s stimulating panel: what is our role and responsibility as healthcare professionals on social media. In addition to a review of the social media landscape in otolaryngology, this panel will discuss the important and somewhat controversial topic of what it means to be a physician on social media. We will discuss topics such as: do we have a responsibility to counter medical misinformation? Should we feel compelled to participate in social movements? If we see unethical physician behavior, what should our next move be? Panelists include Dr. Inna Husain, previous social media panelist, who has established herself on social media by promoting laryngology related topics as well as advocating for women in medicine. Dr. Leslie Kim, a prior panelist, has a large social media following after working hard to create approachable, educational content surrounding emerging COVID-19 science. Dr. Gigi Osler, president of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada, has also garnered respect as a social media expert during the COVID-19 pandemic and frequently posts about this and other medically related topics on multiple platforms. Join us for another year of exploring our expanding presence on social media. Optimizing the otolaryngology voice on social media will continue to be an important focus for the specialty and this panel is here to help.
