Enhanced Recovery After Surgery: Optimizing Perioperative Patient Care (2022 AMW) Evaluation
2022 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Significant advances in the application of lasers in head and neck have occurred in the past 3 decades. The use of lasers in pediatric airway disorders has been limited due to lack of standardized laser parameters and limited training opportunities. The goal of the present hands on lecture is to provide an in-depth review of the use of laser in pediatric airway disorders, familiarizing the attendee with the optimal technique and airway pathology specific parameters while learning the nuances of laser surgery. Hands on exposure of using the CO2 laser especially the use of flexible fiber will help the attendee to gain confidence in using the tool in a clinical setting. Recent advances including the development of ultrapulse mode and the use of flexible fiber CO2 laser will be discussed. A special emphasis will be made on appropriate parameters for different airway pathologies enabling the attendee to optimize surgical results. The lecture will be divided into the following topics 1. Physics of laser 2. Laser tissue interactions 3. Endoscopic laser set up and equipment 4. Laser safety precautions 5. Anesthesia considerations in endoscopic pediatric laser surgery 6. Use of CO2 laser in management of various pediatric airway pathologies with an emphasis on pathology specific laser parameters 7. Use of KTP laser in management of Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis. 8. Use of NDYag laser for management of endobronchial lesions
