Head and Neck Imaging: The Right Tool for the Job (2022 AMW)
2022 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Head and Neck anatomy and pathology is complex and radiologic imaging provides critical information for clinical management. This evidence-based Panel supported by the AAO-HNS Imaging Committee will explore best practices for imaging the Head and Neck. Through a didactic lecture approach, we will systematically review imaging strategies for the different anatomic areas of the head and neck. The optimal imaging modality -- CT, MRI, PET-CT or ultrasound –that should be selected for evaluation will be discussed for each anatomic subsite, including paranasal sinuses and skull base, salivary glands, upper aerodigestive tract, and cervical lymphatics. In addition to discussing the ideal choice for imaging, we will also explore controversies surrounding imaging indications. A focused review of NCCN and NI-RADS guidelines for surveillance after head and neck cancer treatment will be given. Finally, we will present new and alternative modalities for parathyroid imaging for the often difficult-to-identify parathyroid adenoma.
