Hernias, Heartburn and Hoarseness: When Reflux Needs a Knife (2022 AMW) Evaluation
2022 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Ultrasonography is widely used in medicine as a most cost-effective diagnostic imaging tool. In the head and neck ultrasound provides useful and easily accessible information about pathologic anatomy, tumor surveillance, and therapy guidance and monitoring. Improvements in computer technology have led to small and most capable computer chips, enabling modern ultrasonography equipment to combine the examination of anatomic structures with the analysis of blood-flow velocity and vascularization. Recent developments (i.e. elastography or contrast enhanced ultrasonography) have improved both the indications for ultrasonography examinations in neck pathology, and the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography. This introductory session will provide a brief introduction to ultrasonography in the differential diagnosis of neck masses in an office-setting. It will also describe the technical principles of ultrasonography and its application in the examination of particular neck diseases. The technique for ultrasound examinations, typical findings, tips and tricks will be presented by lectures and scientific videos and simulation models. In this second part of the expert lecture, participants will perform ultrasonography by themselves under the guidance of experienced instructors using the latest ultrasound equipment. Instructors will provide extensive guidance and will demonstrate ultrasound examinations of the neck and thyroid glands step by step so that participants can follow and can then perform ultroasonography by themselves.
