Embarking on a career in otolaryngology is associated with important challenges and decisions, all with the foundational goal of launching a successful and sustainable practice. Managing the many early career obstacles and pitfalls requires wisdom, planning and diligence. This panel discussion on launching a successful practice in otolaryngology is for otolaryngologists who are early in their career and for current residents and fellows. The panel of experts will present key practice building points developed from the individual careers in private practice and academic medicine as well as from over 15 years of directing career planning courses and lectures. Topics that will be explored include : 1) developing a patient practice and referral base to match your professional goals and scope of practice, 2) setting up your office, clinic and operating rooms to be efficient and functional, 3) developing successful relationships with referring providers, 4) avoiding early career pitfalls.
