Phis in Time Omicron - 2022 Update: Pediatric Otolaryngology Practice Trends After COVID-19 Vaccination and Omicron (2022 AMW)
2022 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Our expert panelists presented at the 2021 Academy meeting and received excellent feedback. In this 2022 update, the same presenters will discuss how COVID vaccinations in children and the rise of the highly contagious variant Omicron has re-shaped pediatric otolaryngology volumes across the country using data from the Pediatric Health Information System® (PHIS) database. In the summer of 2021, we saw a rise in otitis media volumes and complications of mastoiditis. We will investigate these trends further and facilitate a robust discussion of the impact on otolaryngology practices. Additionally, panelists will discuss national trends in care delivery and the impact on care to children of varying socioeconomic and ethnic groups. Goals of the panel presentation will include: 1) Statistical analyses of the trend in diagnoses of common pediatric otolaryngology conditions and associated surgeries by region 2) Discussion of the pandemic’s impact on pediatric otolaryngology practices including the role of vaccination and Omicron variant 3) Examine any differences in socioeconomics including insurance status, median household income, race and ethnicity, with the goal of improving the equity of care delivery during the pandemic and improving access to care for all patients
