Racial, Ethnic, and Gender Disparities in Rhinology (2022 AMW)
2022 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Demographic disparities have been explored and identified across numerous medical specialties. Racial, ethnic, and gender differences have been shown to impact every element of the patient experience. In recent years, evidence has emerged demonstrating that such demographic disparities affect multiple dimensions of Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery. There is now evidence demonstrating critical differences in metrics including patient presentation, disease severity on presentation, rates of revision surgery, outcomes of sinus cancer, socioeconomic disparities, survival, and participation in clinical trials. This panel will explore the evidence of demographic disparities in rhinology and discuss implications for the practicing otolaryngologist.
