Ultrasound-Guided Ablation of Thyroid Disease: Review of the International Consensus Statement (2022 AMW)
2022 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
There is growing international interest in minimally invasive ablative procedures for both benign and malignant disease of the thyroid gland. Ablative technologies include both chemical and thermal approaches, and are unique in their ability to selectively target nodules while preserving surrounding structures and parenchyma. Of these, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has emerged as the most widely adopted technique. As with any technology introduced into the clinical space, there is great importance and nuance to appropriate patient selection and execution of a safe and efficacious procedure. This panel will focus on thyroid ablative techniques, with a particular emphasis on RFA, and summarize the findings of the recent published multidisciplinary consensus statement led by the American Head & Neck Society (AHNS) Endocrine Section in collaboration with eight international organizations.
