The Editors-in-Chief of several major US-based Otolaryngology journals will provide instruction and insight on the peer-review process. This is intended for current journal reviewers, as well as future reviewers, and follows related miniseminars in 2014 and 2015.
We will have a panel discussion on several practical matters, and will specifically address how to improve the quality and helpfulness of your reviews. We also discuss how to assess new papers relative to the existing literature on a topic, and how and when to use a statistician. We will discuss how Editors make decisions concerning revision and rejection, how they select the final journal content, selection of Associate Editors and Editorial Board, and will give tips on how to improve your chances of advancing up the editorial ladder. The following objectives are covered in this course: 1. Improve the quality of their peer reviews of scientific articles. 2. Understand the process of article review,. revision, and selection. 3. Improve their chances of promotion up the "editorial ladder" for peer-reviewed journals.
