Well-differentiated thyroid cancer frequently presents to otolaryngologists and endocrinologists and management typically involves surgical extirpation. Due to the relatively favorable prognosis that accompanies these cancers, it is critical to strike the appropriate balance between optimizing disease control while minimizing morbidities such as recurrent and superior laryngeal nerve injuries and hypoparathyroidism. After surgery, considerations for adjuvant therapy must be made and eventually surveillance will be initiated. This expert panel will provide an update on the new American Thyroid Association Guidelines focusing on work-up and management of the primary tumor and cervical lymphatics, as well as adjuvant therapy and surveillance. Following brief background presentations on these topics, salient points will be highlighted through a case-based tumor board discussion.

Learning Objectives:1: Understand the appropriate work-up and upfront surgical management of locally advanced well-differentiated thyroid cancer. 2: Recognize the indications for central and lateral neck dissection in patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer. 3: Understand indications for radioactive iodine therapy following surgery for well-differentiated thyroid cancer and be able to determine an appropriate regimen for disease surveillance following initial management.
