2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
The fifth year of the well-received Social Media in Otolaryngology panel will feature a more practical focus. New this year will be Jim Ruckart, a social media professional hired by the Wake Forest otolaryngology department. He will discuss how his role was recruited and structured within the department. He will cover skills that providers can seek when hiring their own social media assistants. He will also cover ways in which a partnership between an administrative professional can collaborate with a clinical team to create high-quality, clinically accurate content for social media accounts. Returning panelist Dr. Leslie Kim will impart wisdom gained during her successful journey into social media. She will speak to the practicalities of incorporating social media into a busy clinical practice including discussing HIPAA clearances and institutional collaborations. She will also explain her approach to answering patient questions and content requests on social media, even delving into the legal and professional standards we should be aware of when becoming social media professionals. Finally, Dr. Amy Best of @NeedtoNose has created a steady stream of algorithm-friendly content for the general consumer relating to otolaryngology topics. Dr. Best will discuss practical tips and tricks for creating high-quality content and how and when to post to maximize reach. She will explain her process for learning new posting techniques and ways to interact through social media. Balancing volume and quality in the content will be a focus of her didactic. The hope is this more practical approach to professional social media management will lend extra value to this long-running panel with plenty of time for audience questions and discussion of emerging trends and tools in social media management.
