Contemporary Management of Peritonsillar Abscess (2023 AMW)
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
This expert lecture series will focus on managing peritonsillar abscesses. Peritonsillar abscess (PTA) is a common and potentially severe oropharyngeal infection with an estimated 55,000 emergency department visits and 12,000 hospital stays annually in the United States. This education course will cover critical controversies in managing these abscesses, including the use of antibiotics, the technique for incision and drainage, and the timing of tonsillectomy. The course will also address differences in managing peritonsillar abscesses in adults versus children. The goal of the presentation is to provide otolaryngologists with current, evidence-informed knowledge on the management of peritonsillar abscesses so that they can provide high-quality care to their patients and improve patient outcomes. The course will also encourage learners to think critically about the current evidence and identify areas for future research that could lead to improved practices in the field.
