How Do I Code This? CPT Coding for New Practitioners (2023 AMW)
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Common Procedure Terminology (CPT) codes are the primary means for describing and reporting services to public and private insurers in the US by physicians and other qualified providers for the patient care rendered. Widely used, but often not well understood, the accurate use of CPT codes is essential for obtaining well-deserved reimbursement for the care one provides to their patients. Regardless of the type of practice, the physician is ultimately responsible for the billing submitted under their name. This expert lecture is designed as a “soup to nuts” course on aspects critical to proper CPT code use, since the codes are continually evolving and newly graduated residents and fellows often have gaps in their CPT knowledge. Topics include CPT code modifiers, differences in coding between the office and the OR, and examples of common coding conundrums and coding mistakes. Participants will also learn basics of CPT code set management and valuation, different categories of CPT codes, and payor policy concepts.
