How to Master Office-Based Sinus and Rhinitis Surgery (2023 AMW)
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
The field of rhinology has expanded to offer patients therapeutic interventions in the office setting. The treatment of rhinitis and sinusitis is an area of rapid growth with multiple treatment options and techniques. Treatment of rhinitis, nasal obstruction and balloon sinuplasty in the office setting has been well established. The expansion of this therapeutic offering to include sinus surgery is the natural evolution. As the outpatient office functions as an operating room quality control, case selection, staff training and office scheduling become critical aspects to deliver proper care in a safe manner. In addition, optimization of ergonomics is critical to ensure longevity of the office based surgeon. The goals of the presentation will be to deliver a practical description of techniques and case selection that will allow the attendee to return to their practices and offer their patients office based treatment for rhinitis and sinusitis. Case selection will demonstrate patients with anatomy that would more suited for the office setting. Organization of the office operating room including the proper training of staff, instrument set up, and cost containment will be discussed. Additional goals will focus on pain control and anesthesia protocols for local anesthesia and optimization of the patient experience in office procedures.
