Otolaryngology in Low-Resourced Settings: How to Share the Wealth (2023 AMW)
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
This session broadly focuses on promoting equity in access to and the delivery of otolaryngologic care on the international scale through trans-institutional partnerships and resource mobilization. Presenters will provide an overview of the international landscape of disparities in access to medical services, with influence from a myriad of factors ranging from civil unrest and warfare to natural resource depletion and other climate-related crises. They will discuss examples of active efforts to address international otolaryngologic care disparities, which includes the development of virtual educational tools, adapting treatment algorithms to account for environmental differences, and donating physical supplies when able. Finally, presenters will highlight opportunities for innovation in partnerships between high- and under-resourced regions in order to address emerging care needs. Audience participation in this discussion is strongly encouraged. This session is endorsed by the Humanitarian Efforts Committee.
