Snoring 2023 (2023 AMW)
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Snoring is of major importance to our patients and their families but is challenging to treat. In this updated course, the expert panelists will discuss and debate the approach and treatment of the snoring patient using medical and procedural modalities by using illustrative cases. We will discuss our respective approaches to snoring assessment using clinical patient features and technological tools. Does everyone need a sleep study? How do we best assess snoring pre and post treatment? Next, we will discuss a practical flow chart of approaches for the treatment of the snoring patient. The nose is a key route of breathing in sleep and obstruction may be a factor in snoring. When should the nose be treated and what is the expected outcome? Does one always begin with treatment of the nose? What is the current office-based options for the nasal airway? With the palate being the focal point of snoring, many procedures are available for stiffening and modification. The panelists will discuss their current approach and preferred techniques such as surgical, thermal, chemical and suture or implant-base techniques. For the patients that defer procedures, the otolaryngologist should be familiar with both the effective and the dubious over-the-counter remedies and new devices. Mandibular advancement devices are well established for snoring treatment and fit well into the treatment options by the otolaryngologist. Positioning devices are also part of the comprehensive approach, and options will be discussed. The evidence or lack of will also be discussed for stimulatory treatments, sprays, pills, and expiratory pressure treatments. Snoring can be treated in the hands of the otolaryngologist. Attend to learn more and share your experience with your colleagues.
