PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: As an attendee you will be guided through a case-based approach to the most common and most challenging presentations of vertigo and balance disorders in children. This will cover the spectrum of disease from migraine disorders, concussion, persistent perceptual postural dizziness (PPPD) and inner ear dysfunction, including its association with hearing loss. We will discuss warning signs not to miss in the setting of central disease. There will also be ample time for audience questions and discussion.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: To recognize the clinical presentation of common etiologies of pediatric vertigo and balance dysfunction.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: To examine the role for ancillary testing and imaging in the setting of a child referred for vertigo or imbalance.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: To interpret the clinical findings in a child presenting with vertigo or imbalance that would necessitate the involvement of other pediatric subspecialists.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Need for more exposure to the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric causes of vertigo and imbalance. Need for additional exposure to the basis for ordering ancillary tests, imaging and referrals to other pediatric subspecialists in the setting of a child presenting with vertigo or imbalance.
