PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This is a one-hour comprehensive course on the management of Parotid tumors from initial presentation to treatment. This will be a step by step guide to the important steps in the management of parotid tumors including important aspects of history and physical examination to arrive at a diagnosis and treatment plan. It will answer lingering controversies on diagnostics, eg. the need for a fine needle aspiration biopsy, tumor pathology, e.g. can you observe a tumor diagnosed as possible Warthin's tumor, and treatment: When to do a total parotidectomy rather than a superficial or lateral partidectomy, the need for nerve monitoring, extra-capsular dissection, should all parotid tumors be reconstructed and parotidectomy as a same day procedure.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: To learn a comprehensive way of managing Parotid tumors from presentation, diagnostics, and treatment.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: To understand how histopathology of Parotid tumors impacts the extent of surgical management of Parotid tumors, including the need to perform a neck dissection.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: To learn how primary soft tissue reconstruction can easily be implemented to minimize the parotiectomy defect and learn how parotidectomy even with reconstruction can be safely performed as a same day surgery procedure.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Management of Salivary glands neoplasms was identified as a topic part of the promoted gaps for 2023. This presentation addresses this topic comprehensively from presentation to treatment, and gives answers to topics which have been persistently been divisive or controversial.
