Complication of Otologic Surgery (2023 AMW) Session
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Forewarned is forearmed. If you operate, you will get complications. Good judgement comes from experience and experience comes from poor judgement. In this course, we hope to present the collective experience of the House Group's many surgeons' experience treating and dealing with complications. This course will review complications associated with otologic surgery. The goal of the course is to provide practical solutions for the otologic surgeon so they will be prepared and have a game plan if/when such a complication may occur. We will review techniques that can reduce the risk of completions. We will review all aspects of otologic surgery including simple procedures to more complex lateral skull base surgery. We will review the legal aspect of complications and present treatment plans for best practices in this area.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Review the complications associated with routine otologic surgery. The course will review problems associated with otologic procedures such as tubes, myringoplasty , tympanoplasty, stapedectomy, mastoidectomy and lateral skull base surgery.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Review common patient risk factors associated with anesthesia for otologic procedures.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Review the legal aspect of dealing/treating otologic complications.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: This course has been given as part of the House Temporal Bone course for many years. AAOHNS has identified this topic as a special need. We believe this course will draw a significant crowd and be well received as it has with participants of our courses.
