Endoscopic Ear Surgery: Use, Technique, and Outcomes (2023 AMW) Session
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Endoscopic Ear Surgery (EES) has already had a certain history over time, although lately, it has been gaining more popularity and followers, as well as attractiveness. Both endoscopic transcanal access and the combined endoscopic-microscopic approach have been shown to be safe and effective in the management of different ear pathologies in a minimally invasive manner, preserving important anatomical structures and thus allowing functional approaches for well-known conditions. Endoscopes are capable of providing a better view and understanding of the traditional anatomy and physiology of the middle ear, favoring the description of new references, new concepts of preservation surgery, routes of ventilation, and management of other conditions within the middle ear and even further. The purpose of this session is to share our experience as well as present the latest trends in EES, exposing the advantages, disadvantages, indications, results, and possible complications for different ear pathologies.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Learn and review the endoscopic anatomy of the middle ear.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Identify the indications and limitations of the EES for different pathologies.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Describe technical aspects (management, preparation), instruments, and other types of support necessary for performing this type of approach in different procedures (myringoplasty, ossicular reconstruction, stapedial surgery, tumors,...), as well as the expected outcomes.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Need for the knowledge to recognize the suitability of the EES indication for the different ear conditions pathologies, as well as its limitations.
