Lasers in Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery: Unlock the Mystery (2023 AMW) Session
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The ever-increasing array of lasers and light emitting devices (LEDs) confronts trainees and experienced practitioners with confusing technical jargon. We present a simplified yet accurate account of these devices in order to unlock the mysteries surrounding this technology.
We will emphasize the clinical aspects of light-tissue interaction. The course will categorize the devices according to their respective targets (vascular, pigmented, rhytids, etc.) and how to choose the best device for each scenario. Further, practitioners will be able to understand the end-point tissue effect and not rely on the use of memorized parameters. The attendee will also come away with an overall understanding of the technical basics of lasers and light emitting devices.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Understand the concept of light-tissue interaction and the basic physics behind laser and LED devices.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Understand how to pair the correct laser/light device with the specific clinical problem: tissue effect and clinical end points.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Understand laser safety in the office and operating room.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: Our course will help otolaryngologists and facial plastic surgeons understand this ever-changing field, both now and for the foreseeable future."
