PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Our panel will lead the audience through the new concepts underlying why chronic ear disease occurs and the essential understanding of bacteriology, immunology, biomechanics and pathology needed to effectively manage the chronically draining ear. The panel will cover why current ototopicals fail, what the best available treatments topically are today, surgical and reconstructive considerations. Part one of the session will cover the underlying background knowledge to mange chronic ears and part two will be a difficult case discussion.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Understand why ototopicals fail to eradicate chronic ear infectionsOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Understand middle ear mucosa, ventilation and biomechanical considerations in the chronic earOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Know the best ototopical choices and surgical management foundations in the chronic earBACKGROUND STATEMENT: Need to bring awareness to members about the new evidence on understanding chronic ear infectious disease including new research on ototopical therapies, ototoxicity and implications for hearing loss.
