Mastering Thyroid Radiofrequency Ablation: Why Surgeons Should Do It ? (2023 AMW) Session
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Radiofrequency Ablation of Thyroid and Parathyroid Nodules is a novel technique for managing thyroid nodules. It is currently being adopted by several institutions across the USA and different medical specialties. This disruptive technology can potentially change the management of a significant number of thyroid nodules and benefit patients; by not having to undergo hormone replacement therapy or surgical risks. On the other hand, such technology can deviate the course of management of thyroid nodules away from the Head and Neck surgeon toward endocrinologists, interventional thyrodologists. Thus, we need to motivate and educate our colleagues to pursue this treatment option to offer their patients .OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Establish the principles for Thermal ablation of thyroid nodulesOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Demonstrate the skills required to adopt and master this techniqueOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Discuss with the audience the best course of action to adopt this techniqueBACKGROUND STATEMENT: RFA is a new approach to thyroid nodules that can potentially reduce the number of surgical procedures over the thyroid gland. The surgeon needs to be fluent in this to maintain relevance in managing thyroid disorders.
