Temporal Bone Radiology: Basic to Advanced, Part 2 (2023 AMW) Session
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Through this interactive presentation, the audience is exposed to challenging temporal bone radiology cases and offered strategies to improve his/her interpretation. The first hour would focus on fundamentals of temporal bone imaging and the second hour on advance case presentation. The emphasis is placed on subtle but pertinent findings on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations and their importance in creating and narrowing a differential diagnoses. We will present guidelines to aid in the efficient acquisition and interpretation of imaging for patients with common otologic symptoms such as vertigo, hearing loss, pulsatile tinnitus as well as rare and more challenging disorders such as skullbase, jugular foramen and facial nerve tumors.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Understand fundamentals of temporal bone imagingOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Order appropriate radiographic tests and understand the strengths and limitations of different imaging modalities.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Interpret key radiographic findings for common pathologic conditions of the temporal boneBACKGROUND STATEMENT: Need for better understanding of imaging modalities for otologic conditions; Hope to assist otolaryngologists to order the appropriate study, interpret it themselves and not solely rely on neuroradiologist’s interpretation.
