YO-IFOS: Introduction to a New International Partnership for Young Otolaryngologists (2023 AMW) Session
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: At the 2017 IFOS (International Federation of Otorhinolaryngological Societies) World ENT Meeting in Paris, a group of international young otolaryngologists composed of residents in training, fellows, and young attendings came together to create the Young Otolaryngologist group within IFOS. The goal of YO-IFOS was to bring together ENT trainees and junior faculty from all over the world to fulfill 5 main missions: education, research development, sustainability, effective networking and team building, and meeting organization. Since its creation, the YO-IFOS group has published over 240 peer reviewed papers (e.g. multicenter prospective studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, cross-sectional surveys and guidelines) and was the first international group to report the association between new onset anosmia and Covid-19 at the beginning of the pandemic in 2019. This dynamic group was able to design and complete a multicentric international prospective study in just 3 weeks, and their results significantly improved the general understanding of Covid-19 pathophysiology when it was most needed. YO-IFOS members are powered by deep commitment to developing international collaborations, dynamic approaches to new learning tools, and advancing the field of otolaryngology for our patients. The example of YO-IFOS may be reproductible, while the experiences of the 4 past years of this association may help young organizations of otolaryngologists to quickly achieve their research and educational goals.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Understand the missions and latest results of the YO-IFOS research group, its educational activities all over the world, and the global sustainability actions that have recently been developed.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Understand and implement optimal ways to participate in an international collaborative research team in Otolaryngology, using shared organizational tools to promote investigational research in our field.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Recognize that the group of the Young Otolaryngologists of the IFOS is actively seeking new partnerships and friendships to continue to advocate for young otolaryngologists, develop original solutions for the future, and provide key points to replicate their success.BACKGROUND STATEMENT: The collaborative work of the YO-IFOS group grew into an international team that creates educational contents, publishes original research, and develops the concept of sustainability in Otolaryngology. This presentation targets all trainees interested in international collaboration.
