Diagnosis and Management of Facial and Head Pain (2023 AMW)
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Having been practicing Otolaryngology for over 50 years, I have seen thousands of patients with various problems with pain in their face or head. Over the past 25 years, I have developed a subspecialty in diagnosing the cause and treatment of these serious medical problems, which have gone undiagnosed and untreated by Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, and Otolaryngologists. I have learned how to do simple diagnostic histories and treat these problems and able to help over 75% of the patients to control their pain which can be life-changing. Essentially all of these patients come in with pain in their face, ears, and/or throat which is in our specialty but most Otolaryngologists do not know how to diagnose or treat these problems. Learning to diagnose and treat facial and head pain should be part of the Otolaryngologists training but there has been a void in our training programs. This presentation will address simple methods of getting an accurate history to diagnose the causes and present treatment options which are mainly nerve blocks and if helpful, surgical procedures can be performed with amazing results.
