New Trends in Cochlear Implantation (2023 AMW) Session
2023 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Cochlear implants are being acknowledged as the standard of care for patients with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. However advances incochlear implant technology and improved surgical techniques resulted in expanding candidacy criteria and implanting patients with residualhearing and less severe hearing loss. The goal of this symposium is to discuss newer indications of cochlear implants and summarize recent trends in cochlear implantation, includinghearing preservation surgery, robotic surgery and CI simultaneous with surgery of vertigo in Meniere's disease. Cochlear implants use in single sided deafness and selective cases of acoustic neuroma patients will also be discussed.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: To recognize expanded criteria for cochlear implant candidacyOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: To examine the role of cochlear implants in patients with single sided deafness including vestibular SchwannomaOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: To identify ways to improve hearing preservation in cochlear implant surgery and the role of robotic surgeryBACKGROUND STATEMENT: Cochlear implant candidacy is evolving continuously and thus is important to Otolaryngologists who don't perform the surgery on newerindications and on when to refer patients to undergo cochlear implant evaluation. Hearing this from our international colleagues also adds to itsvalue.
