Frontal Sinus: Basic and Advanced Technique (AMW) Session
2021 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Revision frontal sinus surgery can cause unease in Otolaryngologists. With the number of frontal sinus surgeries increasing, a solid understanding of anatomy and techniques has never been more important. New technologies can cause a false sense of security. The frontal sinus has remained a challenge to treat for even the experienced otolaryngologist. The surgical anatomy is difficult in primary sinus surgery, but even more so, in revision surgery. However, many of the surgeries done to treat the frontal sinus have been in a revision setting. Important structures surrounding the sinus i.e., skull base, orbit, anterior ethmoid artery is also cause for some increased stress when operating. This course will discuss the important sinus anatomy, including revision sinus surgery anatomy, treatment algorithms including medical and surgical options, and multiple video clips will be shown to enhance the presentation. Finally, we will show and discuss advanced surgical technique including Draf I through Draf III surgery. Also, the post-operative care will be debated with the inclusion of when to stent the sinus or not.
Description
Learning Objective: 1. To understand laser tissue interactions in order to gain knowledge for the optimal use of the technology for different airway pathologies. 2. To familiarize with endoscopic laser equipment and surgical set up , anesthesia considerations in pediatric laser surgery and laser safety precautions. 3. To provide an in-depth review of airway pathology specific laser parameters in order to optimize safety and efficiency.
