Gender, Sex, and the Otolaryngologist in the 21st Century (AMW)
2021 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Terminology and understanding of the spectrum of gender identities and expression has evolved throughout the years and challenges “traditional norms.” Furthermore, most undergraduate, and graduate medical education programs lack formal instruction on how the current medical environment impacts those who exist outside of the binary and how to best reduce inequities. This is an issue that affects not only patients but also providers and staff that often leads to discomfort, isolation, and marginalization. It is important as health care professionals to be aware of this changing landscape and how best to improve comfort for all.
