As physicians, self-care often comes last. The goal of this talk is to provide attendees with a basic understanding of how nutrition impacts human health and how a whole food plant-based diet can be easily adopted to support physician wellness. We will review nutrition studies with a specific focus on heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and cognitive function. By understanding how food choices can promote, prevent and in some cases reverse disease, attendees will be better able to make healthy choices for themselves and their families as well as counsel their patients. The data supports that a whole food plant-based diet is a wellness-promoting lifestyle choice. We will also provide resources and strategies for translating this information into breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
