Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma Management: Lessons Learned and the Way Forward (AMW)
2021 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
Management of Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma (JNA) has undergone remarkable change in last few years. To tackle angiofibroma in a successful way, physicians need the right tools, sound knowledge of endoscopic and radiologic anatomy, and refined surgical skills. The key to successful management lies in right decision-making regarding everything from which investigation to order, when to embolize, how to approach, which precautions to take, and lastly to be prepared to manage potential complications. Angiofibroma are prone to recurrence and the presenters want to highlight the risk factors for recurrence and methods to prevent it and management of recurrences. The presenters are from the leading medical institutes of India which are high volume centers in the world for JNA’s and see and manage number of JNAs which otherwise is considered rare in the West. The speakers will provide an algorithm-based treatment to this surgical entity by orienting the attendees to the relevant anatomy and radiology and then focusing on the investigations and their role in decision-making. Various surgical approaches, suggestions on how to choose the right one, and ways to manage the potential complications, which may arise because of disease and surgery, will be covered. Other important point that will be addressed will be prevention of recurrence and its management. Finally, the alternative treatment option will also be discussed where surgery is not feasible.
