Shared Decision-Making Across Otolaryngology in a Post-COVID World (AMW)
2021 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience
There is growing literature describing the application of shared decision making (SDM) in otolaryngology. This course will present the significance of SDM in today’s otolaryngology practice, introduce guiding ethical principles, and suggest models for practice. Decision support tools, such as decision aids, websites and app-based programs will be reviewed. The panel will describe how the COVID-19 pandemic and emergence of telehealth influences how we can continue to communicate and make decisions effectively. Differences in SDM across cultural, social, and age groups will be discussed. Finally, facilitators and barriers to implementing SDM into everyday practice will be discussed by the panelists.
