This course is designed to help Otolaryngology providers understand the changes to outpatient E&M coding instituted January 1, 2021 and how those changes affect providers. The redefined medical-decision making elements, time-based coding criteria, and prolonged service codes will be discussed. Several examples will be presented to help participants test their understanding of the content.
At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be able to:
- Understand the new definition of time to determine Level of Service.
- Describe the redefined Medical Decision-making elements to determine Level of Service.
- Explain the use of Prolonged Services Codes with time codes in 2021.
