This self-directed e-course uses case examples to discuss the touchpoints across the care continuum with pediatric tracheostomy patients from initial tracheostomy to discharge, outpatient care and surveillance, and ultimately decannulation. Best evidence and standardization experiences from several high-volume centers are presented as recommendations for opportunities to improve the quality of care of pediatric patients with tracheostomies.

Outcome Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Discuss the preoperative evaluation for tracheostomy in the pediatric population
2. Critically analyze and apply recent evidence about postoperative pediatric tracheostomy management
3. Detail common immediate, early, and late complications, and their management, of tracheostomies and
management
4. Describe factors to consider when transitioning and managing pediatric tracheostomy patients across the
continuum of care
5. Discuss current best evidence and protocols for decannulation preparation and procedures
